A Great Week!

We had a fabulous week together here at the best school in the great state of Iowa!  We have been busy taking DIBELS reading assessments, learning about each other, reading and listening to great books, and much more.

Some nuts and bolts:

*You will notice that your child has a fun social studies homework assignment to complete this weekend and return to school by Tuesday.  We have discussed the directions together as a class and they are aware that a little adult support is needed.  Thank you for helping your child become an expert social scientist!

*Fourth graders will have their Unit 1 geometry test on Friday, August 31.

*Spelling will begin on Monday.  Students will bring home their weekly list on Mondays to review throughout the week.  Posttests will be given on Fridays with their reading teacher.

*We have been enjoying a hilarious oral literature book titled All About Sam by Lois Lowry.  The children's giggles are so contagious and they can't seem to get enough!

**Scholastic Book Club order forms came home in your child's Friday papers today! Sometimes just finding the right book is all it takes to help develop a child's passion in reading. That's why I'm pleased that our class will be participating in Scholastic Book Clubs this school year. The Book Club flyers I'll be sending home each month are full of just-right, affordable books and Storia eBooks for every age and reading level. As a teacher, I always take advantage of adding the $1 books to our classroom... you can't beat a new chapter book for just one dollar!

Currently our book order is due on Friday, September 7th. If you place your order online I will receive a notification when I log in to place the final order.

Ordering online is fast and easy:
  •  REGISTER at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs
  •  ENTER the Class Activation Code (L6MRG)
  •  CHOOSE from thousands of print titles, value packs, and Storia eBooks
  •  SUBMIT the order to your child's teacher online
  •  EARN FREE Books for you and the classroom too!

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!  I can't wait to see those smiling faces on Monday morning!

Mrs. Johnsen
