Hello Leopard Families!

We have almost completed our first week of being an awesomely exclusive third grade class!  We have been busy getting to know each other, discovering our classroom dynamics, falling into our new routines, and more.  Thank you all for being so patient, understanding, and supportive as we have made this change.

Students worked busily this week during our reading and language arts time completing their DRAs (Developmental Reading Assessment).  We also read an inspiring biography about Roberto Clemente.  We used this text, as well as others, to practice the comprehension strategies of cause and effect and visualizing.  Reading this story also led to meaningful class discussions about heroes and those who inspire us to be better people.

All third graders began Unit 2 in math on Monday.  They should have received their Unit 1 assessment yesterday.  Please be sure to look over the test and the Profile of Progress sheet, sign the gold slip, and send the packet back to school with your child.

We started an exciting new science unit called Electric Circuits on Monday.  Using one D cell battery, one wire, and one mini light bulb, the students independently investigated ways to get the light bulb to light.  It was so much fun to see (and hear!) their excitement as they were able to make electricity.  I couldn't help but take a few pictures...

I can't wait to see all of you at the Lemme Carnival tonight!  Be sure to come visit me in the Dunk Tank from 5:30-6:00.

Have a super weekend!
Mrs. Johnsen
